Cypress Mountain was selected by the Vancouver 2010 Bid Corporation as the proposed, exclusive site to host the Olympic Snowboarding and Freestyle Skiing competitions during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games. During the visit of the IOC Evaluation Commission last March, members of the Commission from around the world marveled at the excellent terrain available for these events, and all so close to downtown Vancouver.
To prepare for the 2010 Games, many exciting developments will be taking place, which will continue to transform Cypress Mountain into a World Class winter recreation area. The venues for Freestyle Skiing will be built in conjunction with a new Quad Chair on the east face of Black Mountain. Our revised Master Plan will add eight new ski trails in a brand new 40 hectare terrain area. Fall line skiing will be the order of the day for skiers and riders as they descend new steeps like "Rich Doctor" and "Bad Hair" or coasting down a cruiser like "Broken Nails". The Snowboarding venues on the Eagle Express terrain will provide improved grading of Fork and Panorama and create an Olympic rated Super Pipe within the sight of the Base Area.
A new Day Lodge, a Snowmaking system and upgraded Parking Areas, and an Athletes Centre in the Cross Country Area will all be part of the drive to prepare for 2010. Cypress Mountain is very proud to have been chosen as the only local mountain to be proposed to host events during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We look forward to fulfilling our commitment to the 2010 dream over the next seven years in order to provide a rich legacy of World Class facilities for local skiers and riders.
