Quest University
History of Quest University Canada
Canada is a country of new beginnings, a place where history and tradition are respected but where experimentation and change are embraced. And Quest University Canada serves as an excellent model for new and innovative ways to educate students to meet the emerging demands of the 21st century.
Led by Dr. David W. Strangway, one of the pre-eminent educators, scholars and administrators of his generation, planning for a new private, secular, not-for-profit liberal arts and sciences university has been underway for nearly a decade. His pursuit of the vision of a new and innovative type of undergraduate university was rewarded by the proclamation of the Sea to Sky University Act in the British Columbia Legislative Assembly in 2002, followed by the acquisition of a 240 acre parcel of land in the Garibaldi Highlands area of Squamish in 2003.
Since then, work has proceeded on the construction of the University's $100 million state-of-the-art campus and the development of the unique curriculum featuring the one-course-at-a-time block plan. Following an extensive international search process, the initial core faculty members have been chosen and a team of outstanding staff are in place.
Quest University Canada received affiliate status from The American Academy for Liberal Education in December, 2005, and approval from the British Columbia Degree Quality Assessment Board in September, 2006.
As a new institution, Quest University Canada's history, in a sense, lies before it. However, the careful preparation and guidance it continues to receive will do much to ensure that it prospers in the years ahead and that it produces graduates capable of excelling in their personal and professional endeavours.
